Moving Week

This is day 3 with the movers here. Tomorrow is the last day, then we have a party to go to and then a final cleaning. Once that’s done, we fly to Hawaii. From Hawaii, after we spend a few days there, we fly on to our new home.

I’m not doing the move out clean. Moving is stressful enough. I just want to lock up and be done. So we hired someone.

Losing L has been hard. She’s been coming by after school to visit. Her new host family (she has a few more weeks of school to finish) lives nearby. I’m so grateful she comes to see us because I already miss her so much and because if she wants to come and see us, we must have been a good host family. I went into hosting not knowing what to expect or how the student would blend into our family, but L quickly became one of us. Having another child in the house was delightful. We learned about L’s culture, tried the food, and explored our pocket of America together. Truly, it was life changing, and L is now part of our family.

I think we’re going to host again. The experience was great for A, who is an only child. C and I loved showing a young person our country and bonding over family activities. Hosting L is one of the best decisions we have ever made.
