Kneecap Took a Trip

We were walking into a store when I slipped on a patch of slick ground. My knee dislocated midair and then I crumpled down in an awkward position on it. It was off to the left of my knee. They had to call 911, and an ambulance came.

They gave me pain killer in the ambulance, but it did nothing. The jostling of the ambulance hurt. Them transferring me from the gurney to the bed hurt worse. They gave me stronger painkiller, and it only barely took the edge off as long as I kept perfectly still. The doctor wanted to move my kneecap back into place with an inexperienced nurse and wanted me to be awake for it. I said absolutely not. So I got them to knock me out for a minute. They took x rays. Bones are fine, but they didn’t check ligaments. I’m waiting on a call from the orthopedist to get me in. I’m at home with a brace and I am in pain. I can’t see my leg through this brace cutting into me, but any pressure hurts, and standing is a struggle. I want to take the brace off so that I can sleep better. But I know the knee would probably dislocate again because it feels like nothing is holding it in place, but the brace.
