Summer is here

A just landed back home with her grandparents. C and I are having a lovely day just us again (A traveled all day Saturday too). We went to a lovely shop that sells coffee and analog photography supplies. C got excellent coffee. I got an adorable new 35 mm camera with a bunny character on it. His name is Miffy. I’d never heard of him before, but I knew he was destined to go on many artistic adventures with me. I got a couple of rolls of film for him too. I don’t know what came over me, but I’ve been missing shooting film. I’m no expert – usually shooting with disposables, sometimes with my Diana. I often don’t load and unload my own film. I need practice at that. But I love the authentic, truly random way that film photos turn out. I miss film. So I decided to jump back in. I’m ordering color filters for the flash.

Then we grabbed lunch and ice cream, and then it was time to pick up our grocery order. We’re still in the hotel, but it fortunately has a kitchenette. I need to get back into cooking. We bought another crockpot since ours still hasn’t arrived (nothing has, obviously), and tonight, I’m making an Asian inspired version of a family favorite.

This week I want to read 4 books, produce digital and physical art, and write poems for my upcoming substack I’m building up. Other than a little laundry, the only real housework I have this week is cooking and dishes. I have no excuse not to be intellectually and creatively productive. I want to ward off depression, especially as I miss A. I also want to be interesting for C. I feel guilty when he comes home from a long day at work, asks about my day, and the biggest thing I have to talk about is feeling bad. I want to be interesting and inspiring, not a downer.

Throughout the week, I’ll blog about my days and what I learn and create. Below are pictures I took on a local beach a couple of nights ago at different times in the evening. Beaches here are beautiful and the sky is always a work of art.
