I’ve been making videos and trying to figure out what I want my channel to be when I have so many passions. One idea forming slowly in my mind is that I should have the channel be about faith and the creative life. There’s not enough creativity in the church right now, and too few Christians realize that to be like their Creator, it is good to create. That’s the first thing God does in the Bible. He creates. But too many churches have relegated art and poetry to the secular domain. I want to change that. Maybe my channel should encourage faith and creativity and talk about how the two intersect.
Having a Youtube is already helping me in two ways. First and most importantly, it’s helping me draw closer to God. Filming videos means I need to be reading scripture more, praying, and Bible journaling. I can’t share the Word of God if I don’t know it, if His Word is not written in my heart. To talk about theology, I must immerse myself in it. Having this channel is encouraging me to study scripture more, Bible journal more, and pray more. I only just started Bible journaling, and already I look forward to sharing videos where I study the verses and paint.
Secondly, it’s encouraging me to live a more creative life. If I want to do book reviews, I must read books. If I want to share poetry, I must write it. If I want to talk about art and creativity, I must take time each day to create. It’s kind of like keeping a diary, but with accountability because it’s public. If you want a life to write about, you must live it.
All that said, I need to pray about my channel and see where God wants me to go with it.
