Many Are Invited, Few Are Chosen

For the first time, I really realize how important the parable of the wedding banquet is. A man who does not have wedding clothes is spotted at a wedding celebration (and he had already declined to attend),and cast outside where there is gnashing of teeth. Then Jesus says “Many are invited, few are chosen.”

If you want to be one of the chosen, you have to A: Have radical faith and B: live a holy life as best as you can. Neither one of these things is easy. But having radical faith is easier to me than living a holy life. I am convinced that God is Lord and Creator of the universe. I am certain that His only Son is Jesus and that because of the vastness of His love, He hung on a cross for you and me. He is the only path to salvation. It isn’t popular to say that these days, but it’s true.

However, constant holiness is a high bar. None of us can completely be Holy. That’s why Jesus had to die for us. But to even make a good faith effort to be Holy in all things and be like Him at all times is a tremendous achievement. That’s why I pray for God to change my heart. I want being like Him to feel almost as natural as sunlight.

I want Him to change my heart to make me more obedient to his will, a better wife and mother, and a more forgiving person. I pray the Holy Spirit will convict me and give me strength.

I am also, after watching some of a fantastic sermon from Vlad Savchuk (sp?), going to start talking to the Holy Spirit. He is a real being who has spoken to me before, but I never thought to speak to Him. I pray to God and Jesus, but I fail to open myself up to the Holy Spirit. I want to change that. It might feel awkward at first. I might not receive a reply at first. But I really want to try.
