Just wanted to say hi. I feel so much joy. I’ve been praying more, and the Holy Spirit has been speaking to me. I have also been reading a book about creative nonfiction called “Bending Genre.” I love it. This book is opening me up to so many possibilities. Docupoetics is one I’m interested in.
I’ve now started a multimedia, creative nonfiction book. I’m combining poetry, stream of consciousness, art, photography, memoir, prayer journaling, pressed flowers, hermit crab essays, and more. I will write about everything from jellyfish and cephalopods to God and the color Tuesday. I’m so excited to push boundaries and immerse myself in a more freeing form of writing – the essay. Especially the lyric essay. I love to play with white space.
This is going to be so much fun and bring so much joy to my life. Sometimes I think of something I want to write, but it doesn’t exactly flow as a poem, and it is too fragmentary (like my thoughts) to be what we were all taught that essays were in school. But honestly, the genre of the essay (or creative nonfiction period) is so open to the imagination. You can do what you want. It’s exciting – like an endless frontier on the lush landscape of language.
