Cooking, Sewing, Art Journaling

I have made several new dishes over the past few weeks, and all of them have been a success with the family. I am so grateful they like my food. As I’ve written before, my husband loves to cook, and historically in our marriage he did the cooking. Now though, time has gone by, and he has more responsibility at work. It is time for me to take over, at least for the most part. So I have.

I am trying to get the art studio largely redone. My sewing machine arrives today. Right now the setup of the studio is largely still based on painting as the central activity in the room, but that needs to change. My daughter still paints, so we will need some painting space. But the focus of the room needs to be sewing and scrapbooking from now on. I no longer paint with my acrylics (I use pastels downstairs with the family), and I have a lot of plans for this machine.

Art is such a powerful way to deal with Bipolar Disorder. I don’t claim to be a great artist, though I like some of my pieces. But the act of creating and the act of sharing are so helpful. Sometimes I just have to get the colors out of my system. Discovering pastels was a breakthrough. For a long time, I struggled through with acrylic paint, not doing a very great job, and always feeling like there was something else that I might like better. Pastels are perfect. They contain soft, sensual, rich pigment that you can blend perfectly. They feel good in the hands. And I love that they are easy to store so that I can use them downstairs. I like creating around my family during the evening. During the day, I do enjoy my studio when I can, but getting up and down the stairs can be hard on my ankle. It’s nice to have a downstairs art medium. Below are some recent art journaling entries. Some are pure pastels. Others have digital collage elements incorporated.
