Having some sort of schedule can help boost your productivity. One of the things I love about this life is that I don’t have a boss, and only answer to my husband. I guess you could say my husband is my boss, but he loves me so that’s different.
But when your whole day is wide open and you have no sense of time, it can be easy to fall behind. Think of what you need to make time for.
First of all, house cleaning. That’s the big one. Secondly, errands need to be run. If you are the cook at your house, as many of you are, you need time to cook.
Additionally, you need to make time for self care. Looking as lovely as we can for our husbands is vital. When your husband first asked you out, he was likely at least partially inspired by your beauty. Don’t let that fade away. Take time for hair or nail appointments. Take time to wear makeup if he likes it, and put on a nice outfit.
You also want time to pursue things you love that are just for you. Things that keep life interesting and keep your mind sharp are important. For me those things are writing poetry, making art, and doing photography. On a good day I do all of these!
There are many ways to schedule. Google Calendar is a popular one, but I like to use a simple app called ColorNote. It allows you to add events and to do lists on your calendar, and you can set it up to send you reminders. There’s also the notes side of the app where you can make lists, write reminders, take down important information etc. It’s just a beautiful little app. So many colors to choose from! You can color code things if you want.
Another way to go is using a paper planner. I sometimes use my paper planner, festooned with sickers, and it helps keep me motivated. If I write down that I need to do something it will drive me crazy not to be able to check it off. I cannot recommend Erin Condren planners highly enough. Beautiful. Spacious. Functional. Lots of options. Definitely check out Erin Condren.
If Erin Condren doesn’t appeal to you, try Etsy. There are many designers there selling printable planners, and some will customize one for you. I’ve done that before back when I was homeschooling, and it was really helpful.
There are hourly planners and apps, as well as more open ended ones. If you have been slacking and need to get your butt in gear, try an hourly planner for awhile. Be strict. Set aside time for each thing you need to do, and don’t let yourself sit down until you have done it.
If you deal with a mood disorder as I do, or another health problem, hourly scheduling may not be for you in the long term because your body and mind are unpredictable and need breaks. But a to do list is always workable, and it feels so good to check things off!
These are just a few suggestions. I’m always seeking how I can be more productive, and these are things that help me. I hope they help you too.
