The Upside to the Navy Wife Life

We just spent about a year and a half with my husband stationed in Newport, RI. I was very unhappy there. The drivers were the most polite in the country. The roads were the worst in the country. My house was small and the living room faced the street. I never had a lovely view. The houses had one car garages, so there were people parked on the street everywhere. My daughter had few kids to play with. It just wasn’t the best housing. I made one friend, and then within no time she had to move. The shopping sucked.

Sometimes the Navy just sends you places you hate. This time though, I have a pink beach house with a distant view of the sea. The house is huge, and we have a 2 car garage. I can walk to the beach in 3 minutes. There’s tons of shopping in Jacksonville, and so much water everywhere that it’s gorgeous. I am really, truly happy here. My screened in back porch is gigantic, and I have cozy furniture and beautiful flowers.

I’m a housewife, so my home and surroundings are that much more important to me. Everybody needs a home environment that makes them feel happy and at peace, but when you spend most of your time at home it’s doubly important.

Looking ahead, I get to travel to South America with my husband for his job, and I’m super excited about it. My daughter and dog will be here soon and they will make this home complete. Navy life can be hard. Sometimes my husband has to travel without me, or deploy for weeks or months at a time. But there are benefits to it too. Sometimes you get to go nice places.
